The Piernas Family, Mr. Joaquín Piernas Pérez and Mrs. Remedios Ortuño Pérez, founded the first Riscal Hotel in 1952 with the invaluable support from Mr. Duran who was at that time the hostel director , now the National Tourist Parador (state-owned chain of hotels). The family then opened a restaurant in the petrol station with the help of their sons who were also working in this place. They became the hotel business icon of the area thanks to new partnerships established with  agencies and touroperators acompanied with the growth of the local area. Further aims see the light in the form of the Jardines de Lorca Hotel opening in 1994 in Lorca.

The construction of the new service area “La Jara” is planned after the creation of the recent motorway. The Riscal Hotel closes down temporarily in 2004 after two hard years due to the alarming decrease of travellers driving through the town.
